ไม่ใช่เรื่องสั้น เวลาในขวดแก้ว ของ คุณประภัสสร เสวิกุล นะครับ แต่ก็เป็นอะไรที่มีคุณค่าคล้ายกัน
Make a memory with your children,
Spend some time to show you care;
Toys and trinkets can’t replace those
Precious moments that you share.
Money doesn’t buy real pleasure,
It doesn’t matter where you live;
Children need your own attention,
Something only you can give.
Childhood’s days pass all too quickly,
Happy memories all too few;

วันนี้จะมาคุยเรื่องเวลา เวลาเป็นเรื่องสำคัญและมีคุณค่ามาก มากๆ หรือ มากที่สุด ในมุมหนึ่งของความคิด ผมเชื่อว่าการแยกคนระหว่างคนที่ประสพความสำเร็จกับที่เหลือ ก็คือ ความสามารถในการจัดการกับเรื่องเวลา
ทฤษฎีและเครื่องมือเกี่ยวกับการบริหารเวลามีมากมาย หลายทฤษฎีก็ไม่ถูกกับจริตของผม บางอย่างก็คล้ายกับขี่ช้างจับตั้กแตน ที่ต้องทำอะไรมากมายแต่ให้ผลตอบแทนไม่คุ้มค่า แต่ในช่วงหลังนี้ผมกลับมาชอบทฤษฎีหนึ่ง The Pickle Jar Theory หรือบางครั้งในไทยก็เรียกว่าหินใหญ่หินเล็ก ซึ่งผมก็ไม่รู้ว่าใครเป็นคนเริ่มต้นแนวความคิดนี้ เนื้อหาของทฤษฎีนี้ก็ไม่มีอะไรซับซ้อน
เริ่มต้นเราลองหาภาชนะมา อาจจะเป็นโถน้ำก็ได้ แล้วเราก็เริ่มใส่ก้อนหินใหญ่ลงไป ใส่ไปจนเราไม่สามารถเพิ่มได้อีก เอาละถึงตรงนี้ที่คิดว่าใส่ไม่ได้แล้ว ลองวางลงไปอีกซักก้อนสองก้อน เอาละนะถึงตอนนี้เราก็มีโถน้ำที่เต็มไปด้วยหินใหญ่
ไหนเราลองเอาก้อนกรวดเล็กๆใส่ลงไป ดูซิใส่อีกได้มั้ย ใส่ไปๆเรื่อยๆ อา…ตอนนี้เราก็มีโถที่เต็มแล้วจนใส่อะไรไม่ได้อีกแล้ว
ไหนเราลองเอาทรายใส่ดูซิ เอ่ะใส่ได้นี่ ก็ใส่ไปๆเรื่อยๆอีก มันเต็มเต็มที่รึยังเนี่ย
ลองเอาน้ำเทลงไปซิ ก็ยังใส่น้ำได้อีก
เป็นไงครับรู้สึกยังไงบ้าง เหมือนชีวิตของเรามั้ย ที่มีเรื่องสำคัญเข้ามาให้ทำก็เหมือนหินใหญ่ มีเรื่องโน้นเรื่องนี้ที่เหมือนกรวดและทราย แล้วก็เรื่องที่เข้ามากวนที่เหมือนน้ำ ทั้งหมดนี่ก็เป็นสิ่งที่เราต้องใส่เข้าไปในยี่สิบสี่ชั่วโมงหรือในโถของเรา
ความสมดุลเป็นสิ่งสำคัญในการจัดการเรื่องต่างๆ ถ้าเราสามารถจัดการ เรียงลำดับความสำคัญเหมือนหินใหญ่และสัญญลักษณ์อื่นๆ เราก็สามารถสร้างความสมดุลได้ ลองคิดดูว่าถ้าเราเริ่มต้นกลับกัน โดยเริ่มใส่น้ำแล้วทรายแล้วกรวดแล้วก็หินใหญ่ เราจะสามารถเอาของทั้งหมดใส่เข้าไปได้เหมือนแบบแรกหรือเปล่า

Your “simple words” is simple enought that if everyone practice it everyday, this world will be much more better than now.
Thank you for your “simple words”, I am really enjoy to read more.
BTW, just may be you might wonder what about this article is. It is about Time which is one of the most important. This talk about better to make important things before time fly, and about one thenique of time management which called The Pickle Jar Theory. That’s all about it.

Wow, What a good poem!!!
I am really need this now.
Last night there was a big heavy rain storm here in Bangkok. I were there under the rain and play around like a kid again.
And I will need this forever.

I just spent the time to read this article and finally found it’s really worth! Thank you for sharing. Simple is the best ever !!
Honestly say, this is the first time for me hearing about “The Pickle Jar Theory”. It ‘s inspired me to think of a little thing when ice cubes and water are in the same glass – Putting some ice cubes into an empty glass until you can’t put any more, then you pour some water through. You will easily find that you can add few ice cubes into that glass..?
Regarding this idea that i just noticed, it may not exactly link to the main idea of “The Pickle Jar Theory” much. However, if the ice cubes compare to the problems which refer to both size and qauntity, the water compare to a solvent which helps you resize and reduce that problems accordingly.

Sorry that I cannot write in Thai.
I totally agree with you about learning to find a balance with priorities. Ajahn Jayasaro, an English monk in Thailand, once told an idea of that jar theory. I have found it’s very useful.
P.S. “Time in a bottle” is one of my favourite novel when I was a student.
